Church Authority

Section Five - The Authority of the Catholic Church

Until now, I was not quite there to switch over to Catholic authority, but the evidence was becoming overwhelming.

Lets review some:

  • Christ came to Earth to forgive sins and establish his Church

  • The Church was so important as to be described as the spouse of Christ (Eph 4)

  • The Church is the foundation and pillar of the truth (1 Tim 3:15)

  • If the Church is the foundation and pillar of the truth, how can Luther reject the church for the first 1500 years?  If Luther’s church is the foundation, did the truth just start in the 1500s?

  • The Church is meant to be united in thought and deed (1 Cor 1), yet there are 30,000 different protestant denominations.

  • Somebody with divine authority had to assemble the scriptures (council of Rome)

  • Jesus established a church right then and there with Peter (Matt 16)

  • Jesus gave authority to the church to resolve matters - or “tell it to the church” (Matt 18)

  • Sola Fide is not true

  • Sola Scriptura is not true

There was just a point where I realized that I was the heretic.  And worse yet, it was looking like the Catholic Church was the correct path, but they too were heretics for believing in Mary, the Saints, Purgatory, the Eucharist which sacrificed Jesus over and over (which is not true but we will get there).  There were so many things “wrong” with the Catholic Church that I resolved to investigate every single thing to rule out the Catholic Church was the right path.

But remember the quote from earlier:

“There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.”
